news

First and foremost, we send our best wishes out to everyone at the Georgia Theatre. The Theatre has been a big supporter of our band for years, and we hope we can return the favor and do what we can to help them rebuild. We are working on putting together a benefit show for July 17 at Farm 255. Venice is Sinking will be there, and more bands and details will be announced soon.

Thanks very much to everyone who voted for us in the Flagpole Music Awards! There were some really good bands in the Americana category this year (our friends Don Chambers & The Corduroy Road), and we were really honored to take home the award.

We are also psyched to be co-hosting the upcoming 1st Annual Red, White, and Brewgrass Festival at the Melting Point. We’ll be sharing the stage with Mountain Heart, Mayhem String Band, Dappled Greys, and Corduroy Road, just to name a few. There will be 14 bands on 2 stages beginning at 1 pm, and tickets are on sale now.

We've been spending more time in the studio recording tracks for another all-original album. We'll give you an update when we're almost there.  Speaking of recordings, Andrew (aka the Fiddlin' Heatwave) has made his old-time recording "I Caught You at the Old Fashioned" EP (2005) available on AthensMusic.net. For those of you interested in something very different, his 2008 full-length release "A(n) Simulated Complaint" is also available on Athensmusic.net and CDbaby. And by very different we mean there is not one note of bluegrass, old-time, folk or any kind of roots music on this disc.  None whatsoever.

Also, for all of you aspiring clawhammerers: Tom will be co-teaching Beginning Clawhammer Banjo this fall at the John C. Campbell Folk School. More details to come.

Well, folks, hope to see you out on the road, we have whole string of dates coming up that will take us from Rockygrass to New England to Galax and lots of places in between. And, for those of you who wonder what it's like for us out there, we've added a tour diary of one of our more unusual tours this past fall. Check it out. There is tell of corn mazes, arrests (not of us), hamburger eating contests, canceled shows and a few of the other standard components of a Packway Handle Band tour. There is even some drama and some sitting doing nothing.
