Josh began playing the guitar in 1992, finding himself attracted to the sound
of bluegrass through the influence of his friends and family. After playing
bluegrass with both his dad and his friends, he decided to focus on it as his
main musical genre. Using the guitar styles he had learned from playing in rock
and folk bands in the past, he melded a newer knowledge of flat-picking guitar
to his previous repertoire of rhythm and lead playing to make his own style of
bluegrass playing. This unique style of incorporating alternative melody and
tonal qualities of the song's structure during his playing has been one of his
trademarks that characterizes his sound. In turn, this also offers his signature
in the band's inimitable overall blend.
Josh plays a Crafters of Tennessee Rosewood Dreadnaught guitar and Heatwave's
Martin D-18. He currently uses medium gage GHS Bright Bronze strings. |
